Kirk Shafer is the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Administrative Officer for Meridian Health Services Corp, a private, non-profit integrated healthcare organization serving residents throughout Indiana. Meridian offers a range of health and human services including acute hospital care, community mental health, primary care clinics (including OB/GYN and Pediatrics), addiction treatment, children services, and services for the intellectually disabled. Mr. Shafer has served for the past 21 years as a member of the executive management team of Meridian and is responsible for the following areas: finance, revenue cycle, business development, IT/IS, human resources, corporate compliance, quality, administrative support services, UR/HIM/medical records, and facilities.
Prior to his employment with Meridian Health Services, Mr. Shafer worked for 13 years for an Indianapolis, Indiana CPA firm that specialized in providing audit and consulting services to non-profit and healthcare organizations, culminating in his appointment as a partner.
Mr. Shafer has extensive experience in developing, implementing, and administering all phases of finance and management functions with a wide range of non-profit and healthcare organizations. Specific areas of expertise include rate setting, revenue maximization, feasibility and cost studies, compliance reporting, and performance improvement initiatives.
Mr. Shafer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ball State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. He serves on the Board of Directors of IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie Civic & College Symphony Association, Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, Cornerstone Center for the Arts (Advisory Committee), and LTC, Inc. and LTC-II, Inc. (supported housing organizations). Mr. Shafer is a member of the AICPA, INCPAS, ACHE, HFMA, MGMA, and Rotary International.
