Dr. Bowen holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, where he opened a Mental Health clinic for refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers while completing his studies. While at UT he researched acculturation and culturally effective therapies. After a time serving on the faculty of Central Washington University, he joined Hidalgo Medical Services and built the Mental Health Department from a single part-time Social Worker to 31 providers, serving as the Community Mental Health Center as well as the Federally Qualified Health Clinic for the two county service area. He has served on the Boards of both the New Mexico Primary Care Association, and the NM Behavioral Health Providers Association. Prior to becoming a psychologist, he worked promoting and protecting Human Rights in war zones on three continents. Beyond work, he is nourished by family and the Gila Wilderness where he is frequently found roaming the ridges.
